19th C. Deconstructed Crapaud Armchair

A quintessential French Napoleon III fauteuil crapaud dating from the late 19th century. Translated literally, meaning “toad (or frog) armchair”, the crapaud is of solid wood construction and is fairly low to the ground with a slightly arched back and low outwardly scrolled arm rests. The seat rests upon turned legs on casters in the front and elegant shaped legs in the back.

The back of the chair has been deconstructed (as found) revealing the burlap lining (which we love!), while the remaining cushioned portion of the chair features the original fabric liner, all of which is tacked into place utilizing nailhead trim. Original horsehair stuffing still intact!

Whether left as-is, or reupholstered in a fresh linen fabric, this classic accent chair is perfect for bringing a bit of French je ne sais quoi to any room of the home.
