HISTORY IN THE MAKING

Handcrafted clay tiles have distinguished
European floors for centuries.

French reclaimed terracotta tiles are a testament to a rich heritage. Centuries ago, artisans meticulously crafted these tiles using natural clay sourced from French deposits. The process began with the clay being shaped into handmade wooden molds. Once formed, the tiles were dried in the sun before being stacked in large wood-burning kilns, where they were fired at high temperatures for at least three days. Throughout this critical process, artisans vigilantly monitored the flames, ensuring the right amount of fuel was added as needed.

The kilns operated at varying temperatures; the bottom sections were hotter than the top, leading to distinct color variations in the finished tiles. Lighter-colored terracotta tiles emerged from the hotter zones, while the darker hues were found in cooler areas. The resulting dark flashing marks contribute to a beautiful and authentic floor.

Each fired tile boasts a stunning range of colors, as captivating and sought-after today as they were over 200 years ago.

Handmade and wood-fired, these reclaimed terracotta tiles are an authentic
building material that reflect a warm, rustic, and informal French style.

THE REAL DEAL

These terracotta tiles are reclaimed antiques, not newly manufactured.

Originally made for flooring, they are not the “Parefeuille” tiles you commonly see in today’s market. Parefeuilles were originally used on Provençal roofs and
ceilings, not flooring. The patina from an authentic reclaimed terracotta tile is foot-worn and prized. Its hues, variations, and uneven surfaces make this exquisite
flooring unique and rare.

TILE SPECS

Each lot is one-of-a-kind, with unique, uneven, patinated
surfaces that reflect a warm, rustic French style.

All handmade tiles have variations not only in color but also in their sizes and thickness.

Square tiles range from 3.75” to 8.75” square. Hexagonal tiles range in size from 4.75” to 8.75”.

All tiles are approximately .75” - 1.75”, with the average tile being 1” thick. Due to their thickness, these tiles are best installed
in a new build rather than a remodel. Professional installation is recommended.

HOW IT WORKS

One-of-a-kind lots for timeless spaces

Thousands of tiles—40,000 to be precise—have arrived in Texas from an abandoned architectural salvage yard in Normandy, France. We've secured a warehouse just north of Dallas to store these 70+ crates. Now, the meticulous work begins. Each crate will be opened, and every tile will be measured and sorted by size, thickness, and color tone. After sorting, we'll create a sample floor to ensure consistency in look, feel, and texture.

Each tile will be cleaned—imagine the years of dirt from being exposed to the elements—and sorted again by hand. Once the lots are finalized, we’ll lay them out as they would appear in a finished floor, ranging from 20 to 2000 square feet. We will measure the total square footage and photograph and video the sample tile floor for use in our marketing and website listings. After capturing this content, the tiles will be carefully organized back into crates and prepared for shipping, with small lots boxed for convenience.

Be among the first to know when these rare materials
will be available for sale.

With only a few sources offering similar tiles in the U.S., we’re proud to be one of them. Expect these tile lots to sell quickly, so if you're planning a new home build soon, don’t miss this unique opportunity. Click the link below to leave your contact information, and we’ll notify you as soon as they’re ready for purchase.
