18th Century Swedish Box Chair with Pull-Out Bed
18th-century Swedish box chair, or kistsäng, crafted in pine and designed as a multifunctional piece for everyday living. This traditional form combines seating, storage, and a pull-out bed, reflecting the practical ingenuity of rural Scandinavian interiors.
The chair features spindle sides, a paneled back, and a removable seat that opens to reveal interior storage. Beneath, the pull-out base extends to create a compact sleeping space. The surface carries a beautifully worn faux bois painted finish that imitates wood grain while adding depth and visual texture layered over time.
A rare and highly versatile piece—equally compelling as a statement seat, occasional bed, or functional storage element—rooted in early Swedish craftsmanship.
