19th Century Swedish Single Door Cabinet with Dragged Paint Detail
Mid-19th-century Swedish single door cabinet in original blue paint with hand-dragged detailing across the door panel. The soft movement in the surface—created by pulling a dry brush through wet paint—adds depth and quiet ornament without heaviness.
Crafted in pine with pegged joinery, this piece reflects the restrained provincial traditions of rural Sweden. The scalloped apron softens the base, while the simple interior shelving offers practical storage for linens, dishes, or everyday essentials.
The exterior retains its time-worn layered paint; the interior is lighter and more subdued—a beautifully balanced cabinet—compact in footprint yet rich in surface character.
Found in Sweden, circa 1840 - 1860
Pine construction
Original blue paint with dragged decorative detail
Scalloped apron
Single door with original escutcheon and iron turn latch to secure the door shut
Three interior shelves
Pegged joinery
Expected surface wear, paint loss, and age-related marks consistent with use
Structurally sound; doors close properly
The cupboard is solid and sturdy; however, it does possess a slight lean
