19th c. French Louis XVI Style Bergere Sofa

A stunning example of a Louis XVI style sofa with lovely hand-carved details including floral die joins, ornamental whorls, acanthus leaves and fluted legs. The frame features a beautiful distressed patina, while the (recently reupholstered) linen covered down filled cushions blend the old with the new to create a timeless light and airy feel.

Bergère sofas originate from early designs of the 18th century and have closed sides, as compared to open armrests seen in other types of early chairs and sofas. Padded elbow rests, a loose seat cushion and a deeper and wider design place the emphasis on comfort and relaxation, allowing for extended lounging, as opposed to more rigid designs before.

The sofa’s beautiful lines and refined elegance make it a wonderful piece for not only lounging, but for gazing upon in any room of the home.
