19th Century Pine Welsh Dresser

Antique Welsh step-back cupboard crafted from solid pine with a distressed patina. The top of the dresser is fitted with a three-shelf plate rack that rests upon a lower cupboard featuring a two-drawer over a two-door cabinet that encloses a single shelf inside. Simple brass bail pulls adorn the drawers, while the doors are fitted with wooden mushroom knobs.

The Welsh dresser (commonly known as a china hutch in America), is a traditional piece of kitchen furniture that was identified as such as it comprises a cabinet with drawers at the bottom and is topped by open, narrow shelving above. Dating back to the early 17th century, the dresser was commonly used in the kitchen for storing food and/or dishes.

  • Handcrafted from solid English pine

  • Consists of two separate pieces, with the hutch resting atop the dresser

  • Drawers run nicely

  • New cup hooks have been added to the hutch

  • The piece has been scrubbed of the original shellacked finish

  • Overall condition consistent with age and use

  • Measures approximately 57” W x 20” D x 83” H (when together)
