19th Century Swedish Wall Cabinet with Arched Top

$1,850.00

Mid-19th-century Swedish wall cabinet with arched crest and beautifully timeworn original folk paint. Crafted in pine and designed to hang, this piece features two paneled doors over a pair of small drawers—an enduring rural form that balanced practicality with quiet decoration.

The arched top is crowned with hand-painted florals in warm red and ochre tones against a soft blue-green ground, all softened by generations of wear. The doors retain their painted tulip motifs and traces of the original date, while the interior reveals warm, untouched pine with a single shelf for storage.

The paint surface has been dry-scraped and preserved, revealing layers of color and texture that simply cannot be replicated. A functional yet decorative cabinet that would have once held linens, tableware, or household essentials—today equally at home in a kitchen, bath, or laundry room.

  • Handcrafted in Sweden, dated 1855

  • Constructed using hand-forged iron nails and pegged joinery

  • The right door does not open as wide as the left door due to a prior repair (as found)

  • The original lockbox and skeleton key are present

  • A hand-forged iron hook is attached to the back of the cupboard for hanging

  • Minor separations and irregularities are typical of hand-built provincial cabinetry

  • Measures approximately 29” W x 10.375” D x 33.75” H
