19th Century Swedish Writing Bureau with Dragged Paint
Classic Swedish provincial form with a beautifully timeworn presence. This slant-top bureau retains its dry-scraped white paint across the front, revealing soft undertones of earlier layers beneath. The sides feature hand-dragged blue paint — a subtle decorative detail that adds depth and quiet movement to the piece.
The fall-front opens to reveal a fitted interior of small drawers, open cubbies, and a central arched door, all in warm, natural pine. The contrast between the painted exterior and untouched interior wood gives the bureau an honest, storied character.
Raised on simple block feet, the form is restrained and architectural — equally suited to a study, bedroom, or living space.
Found in Sweden, circa 1820 - 1850
Handcrafted from solid pine
Dry-scraped painted finish with visible wear, chipping, and age-related loss
Hand-dragged blue paint detail on sides with areas of thinning and variation
Fall-front opens and functions properly
Interior drawers and cubbies show expected wear from use
All drawers run smoothly
Surface scratches, marks, and patina consistent with age
Old hardware present; wear and oxidation visible
Structurally sound and sturdy
Measures approximately 37.625” W x 16.625” D x 37.875” H; writing surface 27.875” H
