Crafted in France during the first half of the 19th century, this provincial tall case clock is built in pine and finished in a richly layered faux bois treatment designed to imitate mahogany—a decorative technique widely used to elevate more modest woods while celebrating the warmth and movement of natural grain.
Its understated silhouette is defined by a gently shaped trunk, arched bonnet door, and simple molded crown, allowing the beautifully aged finish to take center stage. Behind the original glass door sits the clock's enamel dial, framed by an ornate brass surround topped with a finely cast Nativity scene, adding both warmth and craftsmanship to the otherwise restrained case.
The clock retains its original works, weights, pulleys, brass pendulum, and glass. While complete, it is not currently in working condition and is being offered primarily as a decorative antique or for restoration by its next steward.
