Antique Homeopathic Pharmacy Compounding Set
Late 19th-century homeopathic pharmacy dispensing set housed in its original stained wooden slide-lid case. Inside, rows of numbered glass tubes are arranged within a fitted rack, each retaining its cork stopper and original paper number band. Many tubes still contain their original homeopathic triturations—powdered remedies ground with lactose, a common preparation used by pharmacists when compounding medicines.
The interior rack features numbered guide strips, allowing practitioners to locate each remedy according to a reference index quickly. Compact and highly organized, sets like this were used in pharmacies and medical offices where individual remedies were measured and dispensed to patients.
Today, the orderly rows of glass tubes, aged corks, and utilitarian wood case offer a compelling glimpse into early pharmaceutical practice. A fascinating artifact from the formative years of homeopathic medicine.
