(Pair) Painted Swedish Chippendale Chairs
Pair of Swedish Gustavian chairs crafted in the Chippendale style. Their sculptural vase-form splats, turned legs, and stretcher bases are softened by generations of layered dry paint, revealing a beautifully weathered surface rich with age and character.
The worn white finish has naturally aged, exposing darker layers beneath and creating the depth and texture that only time can produce. Upholstered in a neutral fabric liner, the seats offer a quiet contrast to the expressive frames, making the pair equally at home around a dining table or used as occasional seating throughout the home.
Found in Sweden, circa 1800
Original layered painted finish with extensive age-related wear, losses, craquelure, and exposed wood
A neutral fabric liner shows staining and light discoloration; can be left as-is or recovered
Solid wood frames are sturdy and suitable for everyday use
Variations in paint wear and surface texture reflect their age and handmade construction
Seats are not permanently attached to the base of the chairs
Evidence of age-related separations throughout, typical of antique Swedish furniture
Overall wear is consistent with age and use
Each chair measures approximately 19” W x 16” D x 39” H
Floor to seat: 16”
